Dear Sir or Madam
I write to express my enormous consternation and shock about recent events in Gaza and my dismay at the "disappearances" and "deaths" of women and children, young people, old people, disabled people, hospital patients, nurses and ambulance drivers killed during the "Autumn Clouds" operation of the Israeli army. These fatalities have occurred right across the Gaza Strip but specifically in the areas of Jabalia, Beit Hanun and Rafah. I would ask that you inform me, at your earliest convenience, of what measures are being taken to assertain the current situation of the victims and when an independent inquiry into the events surrounding the aforementioned military operation will be commissioned You are, I'm quite sure, familiar with the contents of article 9 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights - that "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile" - along with the other 29 articles of the complete declaration. You'll also be aware that Israel has signed up to protect the rights of those living under occupation in the International Pact on Civil and Political Rights. It is vital that we in the democratic nations, and specially the U.N. in the name of the Human Rights, take a lead in investigating such war crimes and inhumane activities as part of our duty to uphold the Declaration that it was signed almost 60 years ago (as much as palestininans have been under devastation and death). I look forward to a receiving a prompt response to my request and remain, in the meantime, yours sincerely, Yours faithfully |
